Hormonal changes can affect how you feel, function, and experience everyday life. At Direct Wellness Primary Care, we take time to understand your symptoms, health history, goals, and risk factors before discussing whether hormone replacement therapy may be an appropriate part of your care.

A Primary Care Approach to Hormone Health

Start With the Whole Picture

Symptoms that seem hormone-related can overlap with other health concerns. Sleep, stress, medications, thyroid conditions, anemia, mood changes, metabolic health, and other factors may contribute to how you are feeling. Our approach begins with a thoughtful evaluation rather than assuming hormone therapy is the answer.

Concerns We Can Discuss

Depending on your age, health history, and individual circumstances, a hormone-focused visit may include discussion of:

• Hot flashes or night sweats

• Changes in sleep or energy

• Mood changes or difficulty concentrating

• Changes in menstrual patterns related to the menopause transition

• Vaginal or genitourinary symptoms

• Changes in sexual health or libido

• Questions about perimenopause, menopause, and hormone therapy

What the Evaluation May Include

• Review of symptoms, medical history, medications, and health goals

• Discussion of menstrual and menopause history when relevant

• Review of personal and family risk factors

• Physical assessment when clinically appropriate

• Laboratory testing when it is clinically useful

• Discussion of non-hormonal and hormonal treatment options

• A personalized follow-up and monitoring plan

What Is Hormone Replacement Therapy?

Treatment Should Be Individualized

Hormone replacement therapy, sometimes called menopausal hormone therapy, uses prescribed hormones to help manage certain symptoms associated with the menopause transition and menopause. Depending on the individual, treatment may involve estrogen alone or estrogen together with a progestogen, and formulations and routes can vary.

The right treatment depends on your symptoms, medical history, anatomy, preferences, and individual benefits and risks. Hormone therapy is not appropriate for everyone, and treatment decisions should be made through shared decision-making with a qualified healthcare professional.

Benefits, Risks & Ongoing Monitoring

An Ongoing Conversation—not a One-Time Prescription

For appropriately selected patients, hormone therapy can be an effective option for certain menopause-related symptoms. Like any prescription treatment, it also has potential risks and considerations that vary from person to person.

If hormone therapy is part of your plan, ongoing follow-up allows us to review how you are doing, address side effects or concerns, reassess your health and goals, and determine whether adjustments are appropriate.
